Musik an, Kopfkino läuft!

It took eight long years and now it's finally here! "BorkHavn", the 2nd collaboration between Ron Boots and Michel van Osenbruggen, better known as Synth in the EM scene. NL. This great disc was created as a rough version during a relaxed family vacation with the Boots and van Osenbruggens. During the day, the beach life and the wonderful nature in Danish Borkhavn were enjoyed and in the evening Ron & Michel “buried” themselves in the small improvised studio that they had equipped with the mini equipment they had brought with them. The two thoroughbred musicians began to improvise. During these sessions I would have liked to "play mouse" and listen - and see ... J

Michel and Ron assure that all of the music on the album was improvised live in this holiday home.

The vacation together must have been musically very fruitful for both of them, otherwise such an excellent record would not have come out. Unfortunately, the two of them withheld this jewel from us for many years and kept us waiting for a long time to see whether and how things will continue after their joint debut in 2010 “Refuge En Verre”.

Luckily, the CD made it into this year's pre-Christmas period, “dressed up” and remixed in October and November 2020. “BorkHavn” is another bright spot in these gloomy times of crisis, next to Electric Mud's “Quiet Days on Earth” - my CD of the year. (see my review in schalldruck 54.).

Of course the music doesn't sound like Christmas, on the contrary! In large parts it is very powerful and sometimes martial. The same film always plays in my head - even when listening to it several times: Erik “the Red” defeats the raging sea after a hard fight and discovers Greenland with his Vikings. BorkHavn turned out to be fantastic film music. Different musical variations such as melancholy, opulence, and gentleness, wonderfully through a minor-heavy guitar, staccato-struck (snare) drums, as well as dreamlike, tender piano playing, make the album something very special. This rhythmic interplay is a very interesting sound variation that I haven't heard that often.

In any case, both Michel and Ron show themselves, this time from a completely different musical side than before. Two EM giants have come together whose music makes you want more! Chapeau, dear Ron and dear Michel!

For me “BorkHavn” is an extremely cinematic consolation at the end of this bizarre year. Music on, head cinema is on!

If you don't have this masterpiece yet, please write it on your wish list!
